Many of us spend a lot of time putting together a Christmas budget, but rarely factor in the cost of filling the stockings. Beware…before you know it, all the trinkets and random what-nots can really add up, and could have you spending more on the stockings than the gifts. Follow our stocking stuffer tips to stay on budget this year!
Budget:
On average, $35 per stocking is reasonable, regardless of age. It may not seem like much, but if you have 5 people in your family, that’s an extra $175 just on stockings, so be sure to stick to your budget.
Stuffers:
Every family has their own stocking traditions. Here’s a list of a few cleaver stocking stuffers that won’t break the bank.
- Orange or other delicious fruit
- Small gift cards that are $10 or less (Amazon, iTunes, Starbucks)
- Candy, favorite sweet treats
- Lottery tickets
- Warm socks, gloves, winter beanie
- Toothbrush, floss, toothpaste
- Golf tees or balls
- Small toys, rubix cube, matchbox cars, trading cards, harmonica
- Magazine, small book, coloring books, stickers
- Tickets to the zoo, musical or concert
- Nail polish, cuticle set
- Hair accessories
- Fishing lures
- Travel sized games (Connect Four, Uno), playing cards
- Magnets, keychains, Swiss army knife
- ChapStick, lip gloss, hand sanitizer
